So much has happened!
As Blogger is a new entity for Terry, he has asked me (son) to post a picture up here. It's a sketch he whipped out for the Cartoonist Club magazine directly following the 101 Comic Convention in 1976.
A lot has happened in the last two weeks. The North Devon Journal wrote a lovely full page spread about the comic duo, as did the Western Morning News. This was followed up by an interview on ITV's local news programme, 'West Country', and now an interview with The Isle of Wight County Press. They were not just celebrating the book, but also the recent 60 year wedding anniversary - an achievement that deserved celebrating!
Good to see Terry and Shiela get some of the recognition they deserve. It's one of my proudest achievements that I lettered some of Terry's IPC pages back in the mid-'80s. Always a joy to do. Happy 60th Anniversary, Terry and Shiela.
ReplyDeleteHi Kid
DeleteI,m curious about your lettering 'time' at IPC.
Did we meet?
Both Shiela and myself always enjoyed visiting 'the office'to rub shoulders with all the 'back room' lads and lasses.
cheers
Terry
Terry, I don't think we were ever introduced ('cos I'd remember), but it's always possible we passed each other on the way in or out of Bob Paynter's office (or the hallway). I used to visit King's Reach Tower regularly (and then Irwin House) between 1985 and 1987. We've spoken on the 'phone a few times, back when I was helping Bryon Whitworth on The Illustrated Comic Journal.
DeletePS. I've just read the articles, which were good, although the first one had a few errors regarding dates and comics. I've noticed before (in my own case) that reporters always get things confused when they write up their articles from their notes. You'd think they'd have developed a better system by now. Still, at least you're getting recognition for all your hard work, even if it is only a fraction of what you deserve. Best wishes for the future.
ReplyDeleteHappy 60th Anniversary, Terry and Shiela what an amazing team you are...
ReplyDeleteHi Peter
Deletethanks for kind words
good to hear from you
best wishes

Hi Terry - really enjoyed your book and it's opened up some opportunities for me (thinking about self-publishing some research I've done). I was a regular reader of Whizzer and bought some off eBay to read with my son. He's the same age now that I was when I started reading it. We are working through the editions we have chronologically but he's really upset that Ginger's Tum is not in the issues we are reading now: "But I really like Ginger's Tum, why is it not in there any more???" Amazing that 40 years on such an event still has a reaction!! Best wishes, Richard (& Taylor)
ReplyDeleteHi Richard & Taylor
ReplyDeleteSorry I,m late replying.
Pleased to hear you liked Ginger, Shiela's creation & her favourite character, I found him super to draw.
The intro took place in Whizzer and Chips 18th. October 1969 , the strip ran to late 1973, a fair run really.
See page 58 in my book.
Keep searching....all the best
